Shining One....with the verasity that you post your topics....you desperately seem to be trying to convince yourself how "rational" your own belief system is. I find it offensive when people post how silly, irrational, or inane someone else's beliefs are. Perhaps if you spent less time dismissing other's beliefs you might just find a more receptive audience.

Condi Rice - What would you say?
by Uzzah ini am going tohave the opportunity to meet condi rice tomorrow while she is visiting ottawa.
she is arguably the most powerful/influencial woman in the world and i am excited about the meeting.. i am not a fan of her (bush's) policies but still meeting someone of this influence is not lost on me.. if you could say anything to her, what would it be?.

Funny, he's got that crazed, whacked out look in his eyes, very similar to many JW's.

genetics and neuroanatomy of religious belief
by kid-A inthe first article links the expression of the dopamine d4 neurotransmitter receptor with ones likelihood of accepting religious beliefs.
the d4 receptor is higly expressed in human prefrontal cortex, a region that is damaged in hyper-religious individuals......the pieces are all falling together to support the notion that there is a biological basis for "religious" or "magical" thinking.
as a militant atheist, i guess i have low levels of d4 !!!

But opium and hashish would have been the "drug of choice" of ancient civilization. Both date back thousands of years.

by Schizm inbrowsing the internet, i found this interpretation of the
a "european union" (see images to the right).
it amazes me that people can't *see* what is right in front

Well Schiz...you'd have to prove the bible is actually anything more than mumbo jumbo. Why would I take the bible at "face value"?
Really what has God done lately? Any input? -

The search for the "God Gene" has been a focal point of science/medicine for many years now. I think one day soon we will find that certain people are predispositioned for the belief in God. The need for something greater out there....and perhaps this has been increased via evolution. Those that felt there was something larger / more powerful out there ended up fighting harder to live & thrive, therefore passed on those genes to their offspring.

Yes I think it's your first step. The first step of many on ultimately deciding what is best for you. You did mention you felt some here were bitter. I think bitterness is probably one of the grieving / healing steps. I asked myself some of the same questions when I decided to leave. Fortunately for me it was many years ago, yet I still have all of my family in the cult.
Don't get too down on yourself, as you mention you were raised in it. Challenging these beliefs are akin to challenging that the sky is blue. Your whole life you were raised saying "It's the truth"....when in fact it is not.
While I am very new here myself, I have lurked for a very long time. Good luck on your journey of self discovery. -
